ok

So due to a 'brain-fart' during my system build i bought a home premium 64b licence thinking it had a max of 32gb memory

Obviously it doesn't :( however, I have been given an unused W7/64b pro licence, my question is this

Can i create a backup image of my current windows set up - using something like true image ,, and then recover after i have installed the new version of windows ?

Basically will it allow all my programmes/games etc to run I just dont want the hassle of downloading them ALL again :(

Have you tried using the licence key in the anytime upgrade?

I accidentally installed Win7 Pro once rather than ultimate and all I did was change the key somewhere. Can't remember where I'm afraid but I definitely didn't have to reinstall.

If you backup your hard drive using acronis, install your new windows and recover the acronis backup it will recover your old version of windows with it.

Just copy your user profile to an external drive and any game saves etc, reinstall windows and all your programs and copy your stuff back.

Tribz
You genius lol :) i never thought of trying that, and after all the bitching i dont about how much Microsoft want to upgrade through that tool as well lol
Biz
Its fact that most (if not all) my games are DL content and the thought of all that downloading sends shivers down my back, especially the crap that is uplay and their pathetic slw DLs
but goign to try tribz idea lol :) thanks guys for quick responses.

Hope it works ok for you. Mine didnt take initially but I googled the error code and got it working without a re-install. Good luck! :)

ok tried the anytime upgrade, and beacuse of the error with the SP1 home not installing correctly or somet it wont work, and according to Microsoft webpage i cannot uninstall as the SP1 was included in the OS disk i bought :( so its going to have to be a full upgrade.

mm ok it would seem although it bugged out at some point during the 'bugging out' it did actually update my version from home premium to 7 pro just needed to manually use the telephone line to auth the licence.
so thanks again and *le sigh* at microsoft for being crap lol
