I use the digital output on my Mac Pro so the default volume keys do nothing at all.

Can I change the system settings somehow so that these keys will control the volume of iTunes? I can do that via CoverSutra but it won't allow me to assign these keys.

I've already done that. Still can't allocate those keys to anything else, they just pop up the volume display with a no-entry sign.

I've had the no-entry issue on an iMac G5, solved it by resetting the PRAM.

But the reason it's there is because when in digital output mode, you can't vary the volume using those keys.

In that case you're probably gonna have to find a third-party app :p

Hmm, I'd imagine that trying to capture those keys with a third party app would be pretty system intrusive. I'll give it a miss.
