So just seen a trailer for Channel 4's live from space season and decided to look into it being a bit of a space fan. There plans sound quite ambitious and I can't wait.

3 programs: Live from Space: Lap of the Planet, the programme will interact with the astronauts onboard the ISS as they travel around the world in 90 minutes. The astronauts will share their breath-taking views of planet Earth which will be beamed to TV screens in stunning HD.

Astronauts: Living in Space, This programme documents what it is really like to live and work in space for months at a time, through the eyes of astronauts Rick and Koichi and their families, with additional material from Mike Hopkins and other astronauts. It will include behind-the-scenes footage from their lift-off in Baikonur, Kazakhstan – including pre-launch and launch, then their arrival on the ISS, both from Rick and Koichi’s perspective and those of their families. Viewers will hear Rick and Koichi’s dreams of becoming astronauts and what it means to them to do a job which is literally out of this world.

Astronauts: Houston We Have a Problem, In this programme Mission Control opens its doors to allow cameras to follow the crucial work of the flight controllers, scientists, engineers, medics who support the crew in space

I know there's some huge space nuts on here so hopefully will be a fasinating watch, only downside is that it is presented by Dermot O’Leary, quite what he knows about space I have no idea. Sadly no dates of when they are being shown.

What I want to know is if its the same as the national geogrphic show in US. Live from space on Friday.
I'm assuming it must be the same ISS stuff, but different presenters and other stuff.

What did people think? Thought it was pretty good, seeing as its aimed at the main stream. Less detail that NASAs youtube videos.

I wonder what the viewing figures are, is it just us nerds watching it.

Thought it was pretty good, well the ISS parts anyway. God knows why they had Gormless O'Dreary there though, surely they could've got someone better to present it than that irritant.

Ide give it 6.5 out of 10, no Dermot O’Leary would've improved the programme immensely, the cursory 90 sec live interview with 2 crew members on the ISS fell flat thanks to time constraints & O’Leary's blandola interviewing technique, i realy wish they'd picked some one with a bit more enthusiasm & charisma to present the shows. :(

This is more like it, a good segment on Lucas water leak. Although stupid over dramatization music.
However why on earth they didn't show Chris Hadfield with the wet flannel. Trying to explain how water acts in space to general public, without that short video is impossible.

Dermot is utterly clueless about space, so is asking rubbish questions.

Dermot was an embarrassment at the end, I knew he wouldn't make a great job of it. But still got a look around.

Long time space walking

The way he switched when talking to them live, sounded like he was bored and just wanted to finish.

(This is for the first one)

watching second now

This would be epic if it wasn't for dermot, I mean seriously this numpty does idiot programmes and they let him do this! The mind boggles

It is rather frustrating to have such a marvelous opportunity spoiled by Dermot being there as 'voice of the common man'. He's a perfectly acceptable presenter of lightweght TV, and great at putting members of the public at ease. But he's out of his depth here among professional astronauts. About 250 miles out of his depth!

I guess C4 weren't looking to give us a Cox/O Briain type experience, aiming at a wider audience. But are Mr & Mrs Public really skipping The Voice for this? I'm sure they could have found *someone* with a more instinctive and educated grasp of the subjects without alienating too many folk.

Oh well, can't look a gift horse in the mouth; it's better than nothing.

I'm ~20mims behind but some of it is crape.
Dermot is out if his depth and doesn't have a clue what to ask.
Also on the Soyuz rocket launch, why not show the usual graphics on how things separate, so public can understand. And they should off had the voice over giving speed, altitude and down range distance, so people could appreciate how fast these things are.

Yeah im just trying to see it as an intro to space for joe bloggs than hardcore space updates that us space nerds want. I'm assuming that's why Dermot presented it.......to show space to a non space audience, making it accessible to people that may not have been bothered by space up until today.

Wish they would have a constant space channel presented by astronauts, but alas, it wont happen yet :(
