In light of all the recent feel good threads about benefits I wondered if any of you have watched Skint on 4od yet? (Being serious though I actually did find this program tad bit depressing but interesting at the same time)

Ep 2 - "Claire became a mother in her teens" "Five children"

Ep 1 - "Dean used to work at the steelworks in Scunthorpe, but now he, his wife and their seven children and stepchildren get by on benefits."

By the fact they are picking people who are not really representative of the wider population makes me wonder about the true intentions of this program.

I'll watch a bit later tonight to see for myself, but that's my first assumption based off the blurb.

Indeed,

No TV programme can really be trusted this day and age, it's well known producers will hype anything up for viewing pleasure. But who can blame them? they get paid to make it interesting.

Sad thing is every human being is born a blank slate, some of these people via different upbringings may have been an amazing physicist or entrepreneur / inventor.

I don't think anyone is born stupid as such, they just fall into a cycle like this and make themselves stupid. Almost sort of like a learned helplessness.

I personally believe all human beings have untapped power in them, I really do.

ADMINS why move my thread!

You know all things benefits / race related belong in General Discussion, it's where all the action is, it's the forum no man land :(

Nobody is going to post now

yet his twin brother is very intelligent, they really are opposite ends of the spectrum which I find very odd as genetically they should be the same.

That's why I don't believe it's genetics and it's mostly social conditioning

Largely I think it's more about where you take influence from in your life and some of us are just luckier than others getting the right influences.

It would have to have been drastically different but according to them they both were close as twins tend to be and grew up together in the same enviroment, school etc.

Also depends on friends, work colleagues, television shows they may watch (Lord knows if you watch Geordie shore your brain turns into a lettuce...), also what books you read / other media like newspapers can play a huge role.

What influenced me most was books / internet / friends not really my parents to be honest.

this part of the forum is nowhere near as good as GD, all the classic names would be appearing out the woodwork by now *Cough* Dolph.

This is like bringing a classic music CD of Tchaikovsky to a RnB festival.

Too much calm here, we need some fat beats dropped Yolo.

The fact there is a strong correlation between race and IQ tends to suggest that we're not blank slates at all. If intelligence is say 60% inherited and 40% upbringing, then the chances are these people would never be amazing physicists, entrepreneurs or inventors.

So living on benefits is hereditary is it?

Mind sets/attitudes are not genetic, emotional intelligence (ability to self motivate, delay gratification, self awareness of emotions, positivity etc) is not either, I suggest you do your research to understand the depth of my statement.

Are you mental? Arguing, in that context, isn't a negative word. An essay will argue a point, but that doesn't mean they're raging out.

Of course, playing devils advocate, we are all animals, and as such we are here to keep the species going.
You could say that somebody who has 5 kids (that will go on to have 5 kids each...) is actually contributing more to the the continuation of the species than most people in this thread...;)
:p
I'll get me coat.

Don't worry I've got it here for you already

*hands coat*
