CHAP AUTHENTICATION FAILED

Hey

I have a neighbour who asked me to look at his PC as they can't access the net

they are connecting to router fine so I checked the connection & is states "Chap authentication failed"

it states it is also trying to connect via PPPOE

I have done a bit of research on the net and my guess is will have to call the ISP to get the details?

just wondered if anyone else had any ideas?

Usually means the username/password is wrong in the ADSL settings.

PPPOE is what you want for ADSL.

Chap is the 3 way handshake between modem/router and ISP. Failed just means incorrect username/password

PPPoA is what you want for ADSL, unless it's AOL or some obscure LLUer.

Unless he has fiddled with the settings, I would guess at an unpaid bill or ISP error of some sort
