Characters for Website

I'm in the process of setting up a site at the moment and i want to have a number of cartoon type characters as part of the site.

I would approx 6-8 characters, with 1 - 2 images of each. I'm looking for them in a modern style, rather than traditional cartoon (think gorillaz rather than beano).

All the sites I've found to commission anything along these lines so far are focused around "traditional" style cartoons or caricatures.

Does anyone have any ideas of where I could look?
