Hi guys,

Just got my own place and the summer is on the horizon, that means it's time to abandon looking at paint colours and start looking at manly BBQs!

It will mainly be used for myself and my girlfriend but will also have friends round a few times over the summer. Wouldn't mind trying out smoking to see how it tastes. I don't really want to be wasting coal so if you think I should get a smaller version, please feel free to point me in the direction of alternatives.

I've narrowed it down to three:

Landmann Taurus 440 - £123 (£145 with tools and cover)
  • Thermometer in the lid
  • More ventilation than the other two
  • Shelf
  • Recentagle - H: 102cm, W: 85cm, D: 53cm
Prefer rectangle BBQs and has the benefit of a much needed shelf. Would need to buy a cover and tools taking the total to approx £145.

Weber One Touch Original - 57cm - £126
  • Includes cover and tools
  • Thermometer in the lid
  • Circle - H: 99cm, W: 59cm, D: 66cm
Good brand behind it. Weber also do a 47cm version with no thermometer which will be around £110 with cover and tools.

Outback Cook Dome 702 - 57cm - £100 (~£110 with tools)
  • Includes cover
  • Best ash collector
  • Circle - H: 102cm, W: 66.3cm, D: 71cm
Looks easiest to clean.

Cheers

Weber One Touch Original - 57cm
I've had one of these for 7 years now, regularly used, and it's still going strong. I don't have the thermometer in the lid though, and whilst they are handy, they can be quite unreliable (tested using a friends lid thermometer vs Maverick Et732). The ventilation on it is fine; I'm able to control the temperature quite easily down to 120 degrees when slow cooking.
The only cleaning it gets, is the griddle before and after use, and the spent coal which goes into the pot at the bottom. I'm not too worried about scrubbing it clean. I also have the cover to protect it in wet weather.

Can't comment on the others you're looking at, but the Weber is great.

Cheers. I'm guessing you have the Premium version then if you have the pot? That's the only thing stopping me from getting the Weber at the min, pushing the spent coal through three little vents onto the tray of the Original version is going to be a pain in the bum.

The Outback on the other hand has the pan for easy collection but doesn't have a thermometer and takes up more space.

Yes, the pot is very handy, and I'd definitely take the pot over the thermometer.

Is it worth spending the extra £50 for the Premium model, or should I go for the Original / Outback?
