Has anyone had this happen to them?

I ordered something online from an e-tailer. I purchased one item for £119.83. During the checkout process the form froze on the last part where I believe that the card authentication form that some banks use would appear. I left it for 2 minutes but nothing was happening so I repeated the process. It went through and I checked my e-mails for the invoice. I only received one for an order of 1 x £119.83 so I assumed everything went fine.

The next day I received and e-mail from them telling me the item is not in stock and that they have refunded my money. I went to check my online statement to see if they actually did. They had refunded my money but I also noticed that there was two separate transactions to them for £119.83 so I'm down another £119.83. I then thought that the submission must have screwed up and I ordered twice but thought that I should have gotten two order confirmations for two separate orders. I've since e-mailed them (politely) twice about the issue but have not had a response from them.

I payed for the order using Protx (Sage Pay) and through Google found that this system uses something called 'PreAuth' that an e-teller may use. To quote a document:

If the customer has sufficient funds for PreAuth and the Repeat, the customer may think they have been charged twice, but they have not. The PreAuth will never be settled and the shadow will be removed. They will only be charged for the Repeat.

I'm thinking of calling them in the next few days. They seem to be a legite company (verified by CheckRate, VISA, PayPal, etc) but they have just ignored my e-mails. It has been 3 working days since the transaction so something should have happened by now?

Sounds like what might have happened is that it realized the duplicate error and corrected it by refunding one of the amounts. The fact you got it show up as out of stock etc, probably is a standard thing as part of the automated process on refund. i.e. It might be that you still get the product?

Would be nice to think that but I don't think anything will be coming. :(

Strangely, the item is still on the site and showing as in-stock.
