Charity gifts

Wife's birthday is coming up and I need to get her something. Problem is we just buy everything we want when we want it so I can't come up with anything.

My idea is to buy her a few little trinkets that help charities. So far I've only bought some little Christmas angel thingies which are made by orphans with HIV in South Africa, which helps their cause. I'd like to give her a box with the gifts and a little card explaining what each gift is and who it's helped.

I'm not interested in the big-name charities, however I'll spend money on the smaller, more genuine ones for days.

Anyone got any ideas? I'll pop some in here as I find them in case anyone wants to support them.

I'm into sponsoring guide dog puppies as a present. The recipient gets regular pic and vid updates over two years. You can do a monthly amount or a lump sum.

Here might have some interesting trinkets. Not sure if they'd be from the Caribbean, Africa or Hackney though.

We bought Buffalo Bikes last year. I think they are a very smart idea. I know you are still handing money over but feels to me like you are helping communities with something a bit more tangible.

Why don't you find a local animal shelter and sponsor an animal or pay/donate for her to be a carer for a day for the animals
