The is press release from the Ash website:

After 9 years Ash and Charlotte Hatherley have mutually agreed to part company. The decision is completely amicable and they wish each other the very best for the future.
Ash are returning to the studio later this year to make the follow up to 2004's "Meltdown" album.
Charlotte is currently recording tracks for her second solo abum (following "Grey Will Fade") which she plans to release in the Autumn this year.

Personally I think it's a sad time, but the lads coped before her (making 1977) and I think they'll cope without her. I think they should get on with making the album with a fresh approach.

Won't be the same though; just glad I got to see them live with Chaz at least once :)

Ash didn't really need her to sound good, as you said. She was nice to look at, but didn't add a whole lot to the band I didn't think. Her solo stuff is hardly awe inspiring either. Good luck to them both.

This isn't an attack on the OP, but wasn't this known about / expected for a while now? I agree with Tom, she didn't really add much to the band. I haven't heard her solo stuff though.

I hope Ash go back to writing half decent songs like they did before she was in the band now. Every time 'Envy' or 'Candy' turn up on MTV I can't help feel that was her influence on the band.

I read on the Ash forums that it was on the cards for a while, but I don't know where they got that info from.

Her solo stuff wasn't great, I skip the album mainly to listen to either 'Kim Wilde' or 'Bastardo', other than that it's a lot of filler IMO.

Candy and Envy make me cringe, just hope they can write a 1977 mk2 :p
