Morning GD,

I have been offered a free subscription to a Chartered Institute Qualifiction for my job in Information Management. My employer will pay the yearly costs for the subscription and for any courses/away days I will need to get the qualification.

My question is - do they hold any worth in the IT world? I have no formally recongnised IT Qualifications but am in a role with people who do and if/when I get promoted it will be on merit/qualification/experience. I lack the Qualification bit.

I think that because they are paying for it and going to allow me the time to get the Qualification it will be worthwhile as after I have the first Qualifictaion I will be able to move to the next one and so on.

It is via the Chartered Institute of Library and Information Professionals at it will be the entry level qualification firstly.

TL: DR been offered a free subscription to a Qualification. No sure if its any good.

(ps I don't fully understand the whole Chartered Institute thing so if anyone could give me a ***** guide that would like great)

If it is free it won't do any harm, it is a qualification that has its merits. Depending on your job and career path in IT there may be other qualifications that would be of interest to.

But if it's free, take it.
