Chatting on the X360 without the headset?

Hi all,

....can you get a device like the headset that plugs into the X360 controller - But without the headphone part?

...as my friend has his sound coming out of his surround sound kit... So I guess he needs a headset which just has a 'mic'..?

You can change where the sound comes out in the settings I think.

Any 2.5mm microphone should work. I bought a cheap clip on mic and people could hear me, but I stopped using it because it was a load of cheap crap

I remember reading it has to be either mono or stereo though, but I'm not sure which so it would be something you need to look into.

Infact someone recommended me the Zalman ZM-MIC1, not sure whether it would work since I never tried it.

when you use an official headset doesnt it just play chat and not game sounds?

Yep, the port on the controller just does chat audio/microphone.. The 360 headsets plug into the normal Audio out of the 360, and the controller port to mix them all into one audio source..

But where and how does the mic plug in?
