Here and There...
I'm going to be split between two houses for a month or so and don't want to land up with two broadband contracts so was considering using a 4G router and a pay as you go sim at one location. Anyone got any recommendations for a cheap router that will do the basic job?

We have been staying in a rental while we are having work completed in the house and I decided on a huawei b535-232 Cat7 4g router. I also used a smarty unlimited sim for £20 pm, it was good enough.. You may want to check other providers based on coverage, voxi is Vodafone based.

Not sure of your definition of cheap but you can always sell it on afterwards.

Alternatively, get a temp bolt on for your mobile or use an old mobile as a hot-spot

I have been using a China Unicom VN007 off of aliexpress, nice and cheap 5G router, £135, I am on it now as Virgin has failed.

I used one of these:
NETGEAR 4G LTE Broadband Modem - Use LTE as Backup Internet Connection, Unlocked, Works with any Mobile Network Provider (LB2120)
£82.99 from the south-american jungle place

It was slightly better on latency than my old phone but the band width was the same ~ 670/70, my new phone does ~1.15G/90 in the same spot so obviously you can get better hardware, still VN007 does a good job for very little dough, you'd have to spend double to get faster gear. Its ~ £300 for a faster NR5103 for example.

I would try tethering off your phone, chances are it has a far more capable modem than any cheap 4G router will.

TP Link Archer MR500. 4G+ (Cat 6). £103.99. Or Huawei B535-333. 4G+ (Cat 7) about £100 - £130 online depending on if you get one with a bundled SIM or not. Probably my two options. As normal with these things, just confirm the supported bands with your chosen provider as it could be the bands you need are not supproted.
