PCI-E 16x is the slot I have spare.
Just need the ports. The raid is software bassed.

My Perc5/i was less than £50(no BBU mind you)
There are some cheapo ones about but few do 8 ports and i'd not risk it personally as they'll probably be slow and flakey.
The second hand market is still your friend for this proejct
Have look over ebay. The Perc5i is okay. Little hot for my liking. I did 8 disks off it last time. The 256mb cache helped but is not needed on this project.
H200 is nice, small, simple but costly.
