I'm looking to upgrade my 8800GTS (320MB version). I'd love to go for a GTX 260 or HD4870 but I get a cold sweat at the idea of forking out over £150 for a card (I did that with my GTS).

I wondered if it would be worth getting an 8800GT for the time being. I've seen some (like the Xpertvision with the better cooler) for about £85. Does anybody think it's worth doing?

I was looking more for a decent improvement for a minimal outlay.

I've just seen a 9800GT for £82. It's not a massive boost, but I'd rather spend less than £100 at the mo.

After you sell that 320mb GTS your total outlay would be less than £100.

The 9800GT while a step up is only a relatively small one.

Anything below a 260gtx/4870 wouldn't be worth it. Your 88gts is still a decent card, I recently upgraded from the 640mb version to a 4870x2 and I only really feel the difference with crysis, WiC and a few others.

I really suggest you hold on for a price drop for 4870/260's, you will be glad you waited, so even though it wont be cheap take into account how long the card will last.

8800 GT would be a massive boost from the 320mb GTS, i went that way once, GT totally blew it away, its also not memory limited either, so if you want less than £100 then id just go with that tbh, unless you do as above, sell the GTS and put the rest towards the 4850.
