Hi peeps,

well my xbox 360 is making a sucky media extender its too laggy.

Our dvds are taking up too much space so my plans to put them on the media centre and the discs in the loft will no doubt slow down the 360 further.

So I need something that can be an Windows media extender as cheap as possible!
Ideally to mount on the back of the tv, wifi is not necessary as the router is next to the tv.

Oh and it needs to be relatively simple to use, i can put a pc together but my network skills are nill.

Cheers

Davey

Assuming whatever you're using an be offloaded to the GPU, yes. I use an Zbox AD02 which is an AMD E-350 platform - relies on a similar thing and is mounted on the back of my TV. Runs Win7, so minimal faff!

I am more tempted by a revo, as it will be easier for me to set up as ita windows.

Is a revo powerful enough to stream flash from a website?

I was going to get a PI for other purposes to mess on with, had one pre ordered but then didnt take it when I learned it wasnt powerful enough to stream tv shows via flash on the internet. There may be an update for this now though!

I have also condsidered waiting for a new slimer ps3, my blu ray player is on its last legs (woeful samsung unit) and i hear the ps3 is a decent for media?

The revos arent great a hd streaming via silverlight untill you can get the latest ion graphics drivera.
But I'm having a nightmare trying to instal them as Acer have done something that stops the chip being recognized by the drivers.......

If anyone knows how to get around this?

The AD02 (that I use) has a better GPU than the ION Revo - it has the same issue with Silverlight as other weak CPU'd systems that rely on the GPU. But if that's not an issue for you, get something AMD APU based (E350/450)
