cheap and just works i3/i5 system

Parents want an upgrade, rejoice. Might have to spend less time going its slow a) you have thousands(literally several thousands) of word/excel files which you won't delete and b) its just old and slow.

So cheap as possible, plug and play small device, the trouble is all the ones I know don't have a cd drive or space for one. Something like an i3/i5 nuc would be perfect other than that.

120gb SSD minimum. I3/i5, no gfx card needed, on board is fine. Rj45 and WiFi, DVD burning drive.

Anything should fly compared to their e2200, with slow as anything hard drive.

I'd consider spending the extra money for a 256GB SSD personally. It will save you the hassle of having to go round and delete all their crap later :)

Don't think you're going to get something cheaper, pre-built and with a DVD all-in-one. Might have to pick two of three and decide what to compromise on.
