Hello, Can anyone recommend some cheap, tasty and relatively healthy places for dinner in Manchester (near the train station) where I can go on my own? I'll be up here three days a week every week leading up to Christmas and I'm bored eating take away in my room and I refuse to pay expensive room service prices.

Lass O'Gowrie on Charles St does some very good pies and burgers. Knott Bar on Deansgate has a whole range of excellent food.

Both are near stations. Whether either is near you is pot luck! Though it shouldn't matter, the walk will do you good you lazy git.

there's loads of good eating in manchester, what station matters a bit but regardless anywhere in the city centre isn't going to be more than 15 min walk from wherever you are. Where are you staying, what kind of food do you want?

I wouldn't have thought of either for evening food as they're a bit more pubbish in the evenings obv, not sure when they serve food until though.

Ah sorry, wasn't too clear where I am, station is Piccadilly, and I am staying at The Thistle which is about a 5 minute walk from Debenhams, Primark etc.

I eat pretty much anything, Tampopo and Dough! sounds good. Ideally I want a restaurant somewhere where a main is going to cost <=£10 and the food comes relatively quick. Not really looking to go to pubs, I don't care what anyone says, a woman sitting in a pub on her own looks like she has been stood up.

China town is 2 mins down portland st on the right hand side, and bursting with choices.

Not a great deal immediately near that end of portland st, pizza express and barburrito on picadilly gardens is about it within budget, although mal maison and abode on piccadilly do both have some special deals usually, not sure how cheap it makes them though.

The majority of the nicer foody places are to the other end of market street, and either right, to the triangle/printworks, tampopo, wagamamas, a couple of italian places, nandos, hard rock cafe, old orleans, henry j beans, or left to st anns square, cross st and albert square, slug and lettuce, chez gerard, sam and thomas' chop house (ok they're pubs, but much more restauranty), a couple of chinese and indian places, and an armenian one on albert square (I think).

Dough, Ning, Sweet Mandarin and a few other bar/restaurant places are to be found in the northern quarter (at the back of debenhams basically, but ask for directions for anywhere)

If you're after nice food in the day check out the food market in the arndale (next to the market hall just off the high st, not the food court) some awesome food to be found in there, pancho's burritos is my favourite.

Panchos burrito bar in the Arndale Market! Absolutely amazing :) especially with a good serving of home made Habanero sauce, very spicy! I would highly recommend it, it;s what I have for dinner a few times a week.

Is that open at night? I am working in Cheadle Hulme during the day, so don't get into Manchester until 6.

I am definitely considering a weekend up here at some point. Really liking what I have see so far of Manchester

closes at 5 or maybe 6, so rules it out I guess, if you are in during the day though it's well worth checking out.
