I've never owned or even used any kind of smartphone so I am a complete ignoramus. All I want is something to replace my recently deceased Sansa Clip+. I used to use the rockbox custom firmware and I'm so used to perfect gapless playback that it is an absolute must for any new player. I've read various android apps can do this.

I have fairly minimal requirements:

sound quality similar or better than a Sansa Clip+
microSD slot (all my music is already on a Sandisk 64GB microSDXC card)
battery life that isn't completely awful

I won't be using it for anything else so don't care about the screen/cpu/ram as such. Obviously I want to avoid complete turkeys which is why I'm here. :p

Budget £60-100 but cheaper the better.

You're not up for getting another Sansa Clip?

There is also the SanDisk SDMX26-008G-G46K which has expandable memory if you're not set on the smartphone thing.

I used to use my phone for the gym until I got a Sansa Clip and I just found there was no point lugging a big phone around to just listen to music after that.

Something like a Doogee x5 would do the trick. I picked one up for £37 a while back.

I'll take a look, thanks.

I would if they were readily available but they've been superseded by the inferior sport/jam models which will never support rockbox because the hardware inside them is so weak.
