Hi, My father in law wants me to upgrade/replace his pc. It was 10 years ago I made his last one for him. I think it all needs replacing other than hopefully the case. I think he only really uses it for web browsing and viewing videos/photos etc. His max budget is around £300. I have had a look and come up with some components. If there is anything cheaper with more performance please say. I have a 500gb Barracuda HDD for him.

YOUR BASKET
1 x Asus H81M-K Intel Core i5 DIY Micro ATX Motherboard, CPU & RAM Bundle £225.97
1 x Kingston 120GB SSDNow V300 Drive SATA 6Gb/s 3 2.5" (7mm height) Solid State Hard Drive - (SV300S37A/120G) £49.99
1 x Antec VPF550 550W '80 Plus Bronze' Power Supply £47.99
Total : £323.95 (includes shipping : Ex.VAT).

:)

P.S the HDD is SATA right? and the board has DVI+Dsub outputs so that is good.

Lastly you can get cheaper and still ample (but less) performance for his uses with a AMD APU.

Yeh the Barracuda is sata. And I kind of wanted to future proof him as much as possible for as little as possible. I know the i5 is more than he needs but in 5 years it might be the least he needs.

If the OP went for a Core i3 or an AMD A8/A10,it might free up some funds for larger SSD. I found with my 120GB Hyper 3K I did need to keep my eye on space management as most software tends to default to the main OS drive for cache files, pictures, documents, downloads, etc.

When I set it up I will make sure I set all the files like Downloads/videos/photos etc to save on the HHD do you think that might help? I don't think he will be installing much software, But I will try explain to him to change the destination's.
