Hi all,

I want some help building a cheap computer now with upgrading in the future.

General use and watching HD 1080p movies, no need for blu ray drive yet thou.

Dual core with upgrading to quad when prices come down.

Basically want to build now and than upgrade when prices fall of higher spec items such as cpu and graphics card.

Please provide with your specs.

What do you consider a cheap computer? If you give a rough budget that would help people I think. Also if you require keyboard, mouse, speakers, monitor, OS etc or if it is just the base unit?

As above, more info to us narrows down the choices.

If you really want a dual core, with the option to up to a quad later when prices come down, I'd go for quad now, prices aren't insanely high, you can get a Quad Q6600 overclocked at 3.2Ghz for about £150 new, and much less second hand OEM.

If you really wanna run 1080p, quad all the way, depending on the software you use a dual might struggle. :)

I'd really reccomend quad, but you won't get a decent one for £350. My PC is a high end quad gaming PC. Cost £500 for the base and there isn't a game / video it won't play.

Some stuff was B Grade, works fine, still waiting on my 8800GTX.

Don't forget by the way, you've gotta pay for an OS too!

If its future upgradeability you're after then I'd take a look at AMD's offerings. With socket 775 nearing the end of its life and Phenom ii set to support plenty of current motherboards its certainly something to consider.
