Im getting my new 400d soon and looking at the accessories I need.

Whats the deal with battery makes, for an official canon battery it seems to be aroudn £45 for a 720mAh. Yet an unoffical 1000mAh seems to go for around £10 including delivery.

Are the official ones worth getting? Does anybody ahve any experience of these or any links to reviews of these batteries?

some people wont use un-official batteries, personally i dont have a problem and bought 2 for £12 delivered.

because your 400d will use so little battery you will only need one spare for emergency use so id save the £40 and put it towards something else

I think I'll go for one of the cheaper batteries, how can canon charge £35 more for something just because its got canon on it?!

I also use cheap batterys, have about 5 for the 20d and 2 for the 400d.

The 400d ones were about £12 for two delivered.

What brand exactly were these or what does the pacaging look like? Most of the ones I've seen don't have a brand name to them

Mine say "replace" on the back ,7.4v upto 1100mah NB-2L

Where I used to work, we had a 10D, with an official canon battery, and several (3 or 4) cheap replacements, there was no problems with battery life, although after they had been unused for ~6 months a couple of them stopped holding any charge, and the canon one was fine. Could be a coincidence though, but it doesn't seem likely.

Ive used cheap replacement batteries in all my Canon DSLRs, 300d, 20d and now 1dmkII and plan to get some for my 5D when i finally get one. They have all been either as good as or better than the original Canon branded batteries. :)

Do you actually use all of those DSLR bodies?

Nope sold the 300d and 20d, just got the 1dkII atm, went to buy a 5d today and couldnt get a price match so walked away without it. :(

Assuming it's OK to say, would these be off the Bay, or from the retailer which is open all week long?

Quick question

What is the model number for the battery for the 30D ?

I assume its the same as the 20D and the 400D ? And is it the same one used in the Canon S70? Because i actually have 2 of these.

Canon NB-2LH 7.4V 720mAh (Li-ion)
