Hi

What is the best bang for buck Core 2 Duo chip for under £100?

I am basically looking at the E2140, E2160, E4400, E4500 and maybe the E6300 I will be overclocking so take that into account.

Any advice would be great thanks in advance :)

I loved my E6300 so much (got it to 3.6GHz on air cooling) that even though I don't use it anymore and could easily make some money back from it, I still have it and it's sitting on my desk right next to me until I get the chance to use it in another machine.

I know that's not the most unbiased and objective opinion and probably doesn't help you, but that's why I would reccommend the E6300 any day of the week. :p

How much do the 2XXX’s suffer at 3Ghz compared to a Conroe at a similar clock? I would imagine they would struggle as they have a lot less cache.

For doing what? :)

In games that aren't overly heavy on CPU they are neck and neck Sup Com is an example of where the Larger cache would show - but the 2XXX's are still more then enough for full effects.

In Windows however the cache comes in more handy for doing heavy loads that make use of it.

Thanks for the information seems like the 2XXX’s are a really good bargain. I just need a cheap CPU to tide me over until the new quad cores come in January.
