Cheap CPU and fan for 775 mb

Hi. I think I busted my brothers q6600 as was cleaning it cos had smokers dust cloged in a tuniq tower, while on. I know dumb move but didn't think I'd bust it with wiping with a wipe some gunk. Anyhow PC froze and since then it hasnt displayed anything when booting monitor wouldn't recognise PC was on so was in standby. I think maybe cos when cleaning I had to rub a bit on fins of cooler and "might" have damaged CPU when hsf moved to side somewhat when rubbing. I think rest is OK but PC was full of smokers gunk I'm surprised it didn't die a lot earlier. Anyhow so if it was CPU I'm after a dead cheap replacement CPU and hsf. not gona oc it so want some at least dual core near to 3ghz maybe just somit good for xbmc and football manager 2013 and 2015 as that's all he plays and uses. Saw some cheap £6 dual core 3ghz on eBay but dunno if good or not for football manager or xbmc.

Ideas? Don't wana spend much like tenner or less CPU and fiver or less hsf.

i would more likely be the pins on the board than the cpu itself. i would check the MM as there is a bit of 775 stuff on there.

Q6600 are cheap now if you look around

what were you cleaing it with? as I doubt the cpu could have been damaged, more likely the psu or motherboard has just given up

If lucky you can correct the pins if it's bent.

Looked on mb can't see any bent pins and tbh I didn't think it was that. I'm thinking too much pressure and the moving of hsf just maybe pushed on CPU too much somehow and damaged the core, that or mb has gone but it powered up GPU and green status light was on and PSU was working OK so I dunno. Still think I broke CPU somehow. So yeah which CPU should I ask for in mm or should I grab one off eBay if so which is cheapest but good enough for footy manager games and watching stuff at 1080p on xbmc. And what's the cheapest easy low profile hsf to get without ocing.

Looked under the q6600 and found two darkish areas one of which looks like has small black lines so I think it is CPU now trouble is is the socket OK still if I get another CPU. I did look best I could but I think all pins look correct but apart from pins looking OK I wouldn't know if the actual socket stuff is OK. I'll try get a PIC up tomorrow.

Left corner, do you see them dark blackish lines compared to rest of cpu bottom area?

Same lines but better pic maybe? At top corner now.

Tried to get pic of the dark areas but its hard.

Heres some pics of the socket. Best i can take i think. Maybe someone can see if theres any pins weird or not, to me looks like there ok.

Decided to buy a Arctic Alpine 11 Pro Rev.2 cooler off ocuk and a e8400 off the bay since feedback seemed to be good and a lot of happy ppl that bought the same one off the same bloke. Was gona buy a e4400 from mm for 2.50 but for 3 quid more u can get the e8400 and if i decide to keep it in if it works and plays games ok it saves me from using the 4400 as a tester and needing to take out and put a better one in later.

Hope it goes all ok and was the issue. pretty sure the cpu broke, hoping the mb socket area is a-ok tho and all it needs is a new cpu plonked in and hsf on and away it goes. If not ill cry! lol i hate wasting money.
