Cheap domain registration and hosting recommendation needed

My old man has asked me to look at building a website for him for his business. It's only going to be a very simple page so mega bandwidth isnt required.

What we do need is email hosting though. Or would it be better to use gmail if we just bought the domain?

What companies out there are the best to use for these sort of requirements?
 
Fair enough questions.

I would recommend Google for e-mail using your own domain though, it's brilliant.
