I want to photograph the next solar eclipses I see. They're some years off, so no rush. Before that, I wish to practice by photographing the sun and the moon.
I have a tripod. I have a camera. I have a 500mm catadioptic manual lens. I have a solar filter. I believe I need an equatorial mount. I don't mind manually moving the camera for the periods of non-totality (which can be an hour either side) but totality lasts long enough - up to 7 minutes - that automatic movement for that length of time would be good.
Do I actually need one? Which one do I need?
I also have an iPad Pro but not a laptop.
