Any suggestions on a cheap second gaming computer with a small footprint and a good upgrade path should I wish to in the future, but which right now doesn’t cost the earth. I need a copy of windows and a monitor.

Id advise you to trawl the Members market. Maybe find yourself a Nice i5 2500k bundle, a cheap gfx card and whatnot.

The spec in your sig is something not far off what you could find.

The pentium should do for now and you'll be able to upgrade it to an ivy i3/i5/i7 later down the line.
