cheap gaming controller?

Just bought Road Redemption on steam sale and finally realise now is the time to buy a contoller as its just not that great for keyboard / mouse!
Anyone reccomend one around the £30 price point? not bothered about it being wired or wireless just decent enough build quality

Just get an xbox one pad, will probably cost more like £40+, but that is really the best option.

2nd that, you can get xbox one pad plus PC dongle for for around 45£

Can you easily get the ps4 controller to work? I've got two of those already.

Sure, but assuming your running windows, the xbox pad also being microsoft has better baked in support and integration, it just works.

I believe the xbox one pad for windows (newer one with bluetooth too) can recharge via usb cable, although what I did was buy a 4 pack of high capacity rechargeable AA batteries, 2900mah - they seem to last really well between charges.

Yes, just install DS4Windows and away you go.

Only minor issue is that most games will show Xbox buttons instead of the PS ones.

That's good think I used my PS3 controller on my old gaming laptop for awhile sounds like it hasn't changed much.
