Hi, was wondering if anyone could recommend me a good gaming laptop.

General Questions

1) What is your budget?

No more than £1000, the cheaper the better as I'm a student.

2) What size notebook would you prefer?

d. Mainstream; 15" - 16" screen
e. Desktop Replacement; 17"+ screen(preferable)

3) Where will you buying this notebook? You can select the flag of your country as an indicator.

UK

4) Are there any brands that you prefer or any you really don't like?

I don't mind.

5) What are the primary tasks will you be performing with this notebook?

Gaming(primary), internet, media, perhaps some editing aswell.

6) Will you be taking the notebook with you to different places, leaving it on your desk or both?

I will probably be carrying it about into different rooms. WIll rarely be left on a desk.

7) Will you be playing games on it; if so, which games or types of games?

Definitely. MMOs, shooters(Though not crysis!), RPGs. Don't really want them to run on the best settings possible, but something which could run newish games over the next 2 years at medium/low settings.

8) How many hours of battery life do you need?

Will be plugged mostly in so not really an issue.

9) Would you prefer to see the notebooks you're considering before purchasing it or buying a notebook on-line without seeing it is OK?

Will be buying online so don't mind,

10) What OS do you prefer? Windows (XP or Vista), Mac OS, Linux, etc.

Windows preferably for games. Prefably VIsta(I also have an OEM disc to install on it so the laptop doesn't necessarily need to come with OS installed)

Screen Specifics

11) From the choices below, what screen resolutions would you prefer?

Whichever is best for gaming(I'm assuming D?)

d. WUXGA - 1920x1200; Very small text and icons, that can be hard to read. Lots of stuff fits on the screen, which means less scrolling. Good for applications that require a high level of detail like CAD or Photo Editing.

12) Do you want a glossy/reflective screen or a matte/non-glossy screen?

Don't mind.

Build Quality and Design

13) Are the notebook's looks and stylishness important to you?

No.
14) When are you buying this laptop and how long do you want this laptop to last?

I'm looking to buy as soon as possible(hopefully today) and I'd like it to last 2-4 years.

Notebook Components

15) How much hard drive space do you need; 80GB to 500GB? Do you want a SSD drive?

300GB + preferably. But don't mind less if it's considerably cheaper.

16) Do you need an optical drive? If yes, a CDRW/DVD-ROM, DVD Burner or Blu-Ray drive?

DVD burner, Although don't mind spending an extra 20-50ish if a laptop comes with Blu-Ray.

If I may be allowed to slightly hijack the thread as I've been looking for the same recently, I've come across these 2. The Acer well suit your needs. Note the huge screen though. The MSI one has a better graphics card, processor but smaller/lower res screen and I do wonder if it's worth the extra £230. It also comes with a backback and a gaming mouse. Full specs and reviews of each available on the net of course.
