I'm new to gaming pc's and getting my first one to use for the Oculus Rift (PC requirements: https://support.oculus.com/248749509016567/). Tight budget of £350 to £400, and want to get maximum bang for buck, and tap into expertise on here to achieve this. Would really appreciate some help. Can get hold of a copy of Windows 10 OS (but would prefer machine to have this pre-installed). Already have monitor and peripherals. Needs to be expandable in future to improve machine. Happy to buy pre-built refurb and make compromises.

As a starting point someone recommended this to me:
- Machine without GPU: *** Competitor info removed ***

Please can you let me know your thoughts, and recommend another machine within my budget. Thanks

Hi and welcome,

Please be aware that this forum is run by and paid for by Overclockers UK Retailer so please only use their own shop links or just list your budget and requirements and I'm sure you'll get some fine advice from other forum users.

Trying to run VR at they level of budget is going to prove very hard as your going to need to spend upwards of £200 on a GPU alone (unless VR is significantly less demanding than I remember?) Those specs you listed regarding the Occulus Rift seem really low compared to what I remember friends requiring to have a smooth experience, though I guess it'll depend on the games?

Additionally are you needing a prebuilt computer or happy to build one yourself. As a prebuilt will cost you more and theres nothing I can recommend at your price point.

That machine you posted as well, how much were they asking as its very basic. The CPU is Zen+ not Zen 2 and just a quad core APU at that, and will have pretty bad performance in a gaming machine, additionally while the 570 is a good card for the money (or at least used to be), it's again not suitable for VR. That machine has no upgrade capability really either without just getting all new parts (like new ram as 8gb is pretty low and its pretty slow stuff too)

Well i tried to link to the particular machine and also provide price as I was looking for specific advice on the machine i was referring to, but the mod kept modifying my post so i kind of gave up. But thank your your help and advice. I realise it's a tough ask at this price point.

You still list the price of it and specs just not mention any competitors (ie who its from), it's not so much as a tough ask at that price point but plain impossible really, the GPU market is not good right now so you have to pay through the nose to get anything half decent. A 2060 which would be suitable for VR would take up your entire budget pretty much. Your best off either not trying to playing VR on your budget (wont be fun), up your budget or buy exclusively 2nd hand components from the likes of facebook marketplace (the bay is generally expensive for 2nd hand components)
