Hi, have windows, 8 gb ddr3 ram and HDDs already but looking at building a small gaming machine for my 11 yr old stepson. He mostly plays minecraft, browser games and occasionally war thunder. Though given his age, I suspect I should plan on him wishing to play increasingly more demanding games as he approaches his teenage years.

I understand War thunder has a few more demands of a low end machine but I was wondering whether integrated graphics options would permit playable fps for such games, with a view of adding a graphics card at a later date.

So was looking at possibly the G3258 and 212 evo cooler, or maybe the AMD kaveri 7870k. Anything else I should consider? The intel 1150 route would give be more headroom for the future and I have to say I'm an intel fanboy myself but i'm open to other options.

Minecraft will run fine on an APU. You could always pop a dedicated GPU later on if he gets into more demanding games.

Most games aren't all that CPU intensive these days. For example I'm still using an Athlon x3 455 and can still run the majority of games at a very reasonable frame rate.7

According to this vidya, a 7850k runs minecraft admirably.
