Hey guys

I am toying with the idea of putting a gpu in my system for casual gaming.

Not really interested in playing the newest and best at the highest frame rate just something that will handle most games at around medium setting's.

My system is;

Intel i5 8500
Asus prime z370-p
16gb ddr4 2400mhz
radeon HD 5550 (very old card)
1tb Toshiba HDD
240gb Kingston ssd
corsair vs 550w psu

Any help would be appreciated.

Is there any real difference between the 4gb and 8gb 570rx?
depends on the games your playing. if you looking at older games the 4gb is fine, although if the find a 8gb at a price your happy with its not going to be a bad thing to have in your back pocket should you want to play more texture rich games.

most of the games i play dont go past 3.5GB, battlefield, call of duty, GTA and so on

yep i would second that

I third that, the twin air cooler looks good should keep those gpu temps down.

At this price point of £150-160 if you want a card with higher fps then it has to be the rx570 over the 1050ti which is it's main competition at this point in time.

Anyways... this is important before you buy what is the resolution you playing at?

should have asked the resolution your playing at.

If it is 1080p then a rx 570 will do fine or as mattyfez says a used rx480.

Anyhow if you get a new rx 570 or a used rx 480 it will be a big jump for sure in performance over the 5550 you have.

Take this link with a pinch of salt it was the only comparison i could find on google > https://gpu.userbenchmark.com/Compare/AMD-RX-570-vs-AMD-Radeon-HD-5500/3924vsm8853

Or even a second hand rx480 8gb, it's basically the same card.
I run a 480 at 1080 resolution and there's no need in my mind to upgrade.

570 / 480 are the same card. however finding a 470/480 or 570/580 thats not been used for mining is very hard.
a new 570 8gb is only £150 there £120 used. the new card with 3year warranty is a no brainier

if the saveing was bugger i would go used but rolling the dice for £20/£30 is a no from me

Yeah I don't buying 2nd hand if the price is reasonable but an old 2nd hand item at 80% of retail price is always a flat out no for me.

there is no real point in 2nd hand cards of 100 pound now as the 570/580 has what £100 pound cards covered. so no point in buying a 970/980 gtx as the equivelent brand new can be brought for the same new. sell the games on a 750 you have a £100 card. same as what you would pay for a 2nd hand 970 yet the same speed.
