Cheap guitar?

To throw a curveball in, it might be an idea to save up a little bit and get something you can grow into, rather than something cheap. Just thinking if you do get into it and outgrow this guitar, it's a bit of a pain to shift. You could always get one of those Vox Amplug things for about £20 and use it with a pair of headphones (or aux in with some speakers) to tide you over amp-wise. Squire Classic Vibes can be had for about 200-300 odd (probably low 200s second hand) and are lauded.

At around the £100-£150 bracket all in with an amp, the HB ones typically come out best value for a new starter kit.

If upping the budget then actually you really need to jump to £180-£250 for the guitar alone to get a worthwhile improvement.

Without question the best new guitar in budget is the Yamaha Pacifica 112 like here @ £238

Jumping up from that it becomes more about personal preference on play style and brand. If you are a strat or Tele person then a Squier or Mexican fender. A Gibson person then an Epiphone SG or LP.

Loads of options in between at the lower end of Ibanez, Jackson etc plus a plethora of second hand which can be great or a minefield.

All that aside, if starting out the HB gives you all you need for very little outlay; to the point if you sold it all, on a bad day you would lose £50 overall.

there are some decent yamaha's, epiphones and squire's that are not expensive - if you are just learning, be very careful about going for a really cheap guitar, as it may put you off playing in the long run, I would put all my money into a guitar rather than a "starter" pack and build up things.
I wouldn't buy a guitar I hadn't played, so can you find any of these makes close that you can have a go on?

Don't buy telecaster copy as the first guitar. Too narrow sound range and too noisy - niche of a niche in terms of usability even for a pro, unbearable sounding guitars when played badly. Get something with a fuller sound - with hambucker - a Pacifica or an Epiphone - there used to be this "Slash" starter pack for two hundred papers, as with all guitars at that price needs £30 luthier setup, but otherwise very decent sounding piece of wood with versatile enough bedroom amp.

Epiphone SG-Special Electric Guitar (w/ KillPot), Lam Alder/Maple Body, Maple Neck, , Cherry Red, 24.75 scale £136

Cheap decent amp with phone input and headphones.

Epiphone Slash Les Paul performance pack - guitar + amp + cables + strap + picks + gigbag £199
Epiphone Les Paul II Special player pack - guitar + amp + cables + strap + picks + tuner + gigbag £169

First pack has better guitar and better amp, second one can be found even cheaper on certain rainforest site - but you get an idea of what <£200 buys

they look like great deals tbh - the one thing I like about the flat les paul, is the weight is pretty decent, the slash one is a good bit heavier (iirc)
