Unless you buy something ludicrous, it's unlikely you'll get picked up at customs. A graphics card or even a motherboard should be fine. The savings aren't always enormous (15-50%) and depending on who the manufacturer is it's quite likely that the manufacturer won't honour the warranty, so you need to balance that up. The best deals are on the brands you've never heard of - just because you've never heard of them doesn't mean they aren't massive, just cheap! Pine and J&W spring to mind immediately as massive brands in China that are almost unheard of over here.

The only thing I brought back was a pair of Windy cases, and I had to ship them separately myself because the airline wouldn't take boxes that big. :(

Personally, I wouldn't - but if you feel like a punt...

When i went over to visit family a couple years back i found you can get some really nice things. But that was back when the pound was really strong. I got a couple spare unheard of brand keyboards for about £1 each, the unheard of brands really are stupidly cheap. And a belkin n1 router on release so way before they were even released over here in shops and for about £50 less than release price so not bad for known brands. Theres a really big hardware market place in hong kong just i cant remember the name of the place but its really good for getting new tech cheap before release. Hardware is ok but do watch out if you go for software as there are a lot of pirated goods out there that may or may not work.
