Hi all. My girlfriend is going back to uni in sept and I'm looking to get her a cheap laptop for work, and also to keep my pc free.

are all these £200 ish netbooks ok for like office 2003, etc? And is there much difference between the cheap sub £200 ones and the £250 to £300 ish ones as the specs all look fairly similar - ie ion cpu, 1 gig , etc.

also would a £350 ish basic laptop be much of a step up

Thanks in advance!

If she doesn't need the battery life, better get her a 15'' (PH G62, Samsung R530...). Netbooks can be a pain to work with.

If she needs to work on the move, a 13'' imo is better suited. Netbook resolutions suck (although some manage to have standard laptop resolutions).

Thanks for the info, but they are twice the price approximately.
What about the hp311c mini that has the huge thread? Almost 12" screen and decent resolution, and only £250

the 311c is a good machine, and the fact it can have 3gb ram inside it is a bonus in many cases, especially because it has an ion gpu or something, but then only a N270 processor. But with the 1gb soldered to the mobo, as said in the 311c thread, you can add an extra 2gb stick to it, in the free slot, so it seems a good choice, especially at 11.6" and at only £250.

I am looking to buy the 311c, but im not sure if i will be saving up £300 to buy a 13" laptop, im not entirely sure yet, but look around, look at unboxings and reviews on youtube and other places, should help quite a bit :)
