Hi all,

My sister asked me if the following laptop would be alright for her daughter, just for school work and MS Teams etc:

HP 15-gw0502sa
AMD Athlon Silver 3050U Processor
RAM: 4 GB / Storage: 1 TB HDD

It doesn't look any good to me, and reviews suggest that it's very slow. Knowing my niece I don't think that she will have the patience for it lol.

I'm not too knowledgeable on laptops so I was hoping for a little help in finding something a bit better for her. Not to sure on an upper price limit but with the one she linked me being £280 I'm thinking somewhere in that ballpark +£100 or something. I know it's not a lot but hopefully there's something half decent around?

Thank you in advance for your help

I think you can do better for the money. Check out clearance stores and you’ll find customer returns with year long warranties for good money :-)

Really need more memory otherwise it'll just hog. A laptop with not much memory is horrid to use, even if the HD is slow, if it's got enough RAM it'll fill RAM up with OS cache and be ok to use. But low amount of RAM means paging, factor that with spinning HD and it'll be mega slow.

I'd probably look for 8GB RAM and 128GB SSD minimum. Windows is about 30GB, round up another 10GB for progs and hibernation etc.

I'd also get a dual core minimum ie Lenevo Ideapad 3 15"
