I recall the i5 is 20-30% faster on paper and a fair bit better in real world depending on the actual laptop spec.
That i5 when paired with 8gb memory was more than adequate for daily productivity tasks. I've had it in Dell and Microsoft devices albeit at much higher budgets.
Think there are a couple of HPs, Asus and Lenovos with this CPU in your budget that would do the job.
