Going to get a laptop on friday. But I don't have a clue about them.

Mainly going to be used for sat nav and surfing, but some gaming would be good.

Been looking at refurbishment models and 2nd hand, through auction sites and the Members Market section.

Looking at AMD Turion64 X2 or core 2 duo
2GB ram
wifi
and hopfully Vista although xp would do.

Seen this
Processor Intel Core 2 Duo, 1.66GHz CPU
RAM 2048MB
Hard Drive 120GB
Display 15.4 inch TFT display
Resolution WXGA (1280 x 800)
Video Chipset Intel GMA Series
Optical Drive DVD Supermulti
OS Version Windows Vista Home Premium
Wireless LAN 802.11abg upto 54Mbps
For £350 delivered (refurb model)
Is that about right for price.

Ideally I would like to spend £300 max, what sort of spec should I be looking for?

If I got one with out wifi. Is it easy to fit a wifi card into a laptop?

Also what GPU is better? Is there a performance table somewhere for gpus?
Seen these 3 GPU's for the same price similar specs for the rest of the machine
ATI X1100
NVIDIA GeForce Go 7300 TurboCache - 256 MB
Intel Graphics Media Accelerator X3100
Intel GMA X3100

CPU wise try to get a Core2Duo if you can, they're a cut above the Turions.

As for GPU I believe the Nvidia may well be the fastest out of the ones you mention.

If you can find one that doesn't use shared memory i.e, turbocache (nvidia) or hypermemory (ATI) they'll be faster. Avoid anything using an SIS chipset, its pretty shoddy.

Budget laptops will never offer much in the way of graphics performance though.

For your budget you could pick up a pretty decent spec new, though you'd have to keep an eye out for a good deal.
