Just looking for a watch for my Fiancée, just needs to do basic step tracking, show WhatsApp messages and be able to take calls, she's not fussed about any extra spec, our daughter has started primary school and just had calls after an incident there and my fiancée's work don't live phones being visible (hotel) so hoping this would be a viable choice.

Anything stand out? No brand snobbery etc, just need a functioning device with an OK battery!

Thanks!

This might help you out.

I've had a Xiaomi Mi Band 3 (or 4, I forget) for ages now. Was convinced it would be a stop-gap before I upgrade to a 'proper' Smartwatch but I honestly don't see the need anymore. It does step tracking, fitness tracking (inc swimming), you can buy cheap straps in multi-colours from Amazon (I change them every day because I'm sad :p). Literally the only thing is doesn't have is GPS and NFC, but the 6 is coming out soon with NFC. Highly recommend.

Can also recommend the xiaomi mi watch. Got it free with my phone so wasn't expecting much but have been really impressed with it and battery life is great.

I like the Xaomi mi band personally. You can buy them for around £20-40 and there are loads of steel/colours/etc replacement wrist straps on Amazon if you don't like the stock one.

Light, comfortable, cheap and the battery lasts forever!
I'm sure you could buy something flashier but it does everything I'd expect from a smart watch.

One issue is that it does texts but I don't think the Xaomi support other messaging apps like whatsapp/Facebook messenger/etc so that might be an issue though? Do other Android smart watches support this?
