Hi guys, tall order but i need a decent CD head unit that does mp3 for about 50inc del. Second hand is ok, probably necessary. (can ya link to ebay these days?).

Also i need some info about how you wire aftermarket stereos in (need adapters? wires?) also i picked up a good sub box with a pair of JBL 1000W 12" subs, now i know ill need an amp to run this properly, how does this affect the choice of stereo? how do you wire it? basically "teach me ICE" lol in shorthand anyway

If you choose speakers not for your car, you can get adapters to fit the new speakers into the original space.

Many people use original speaker cable to wire the new speakers, as it can be tricky to wrie in some new wire!

The HU will need amp pre outs, which are specific outputs which are specially designed for amp usage.

The JBL subs will need a very good amp for power, having two could potentially mean expencive amp (or a JBL GTO series amp £100 ish?)

It all depends on the quality you want, or noise over quality?

ok m8 ta that helps somewhat, will need to save for a good amp/HU combo then. Is there any penalty for using a lower rated amp (say 6 or 800W) with the subs? i mean aside from not using their full potential? Also does the amp have to have specific subwoofer outputs? or do they all?

It's all confusing me!

Edit: Oh and its not noise i want, TBH very little of what i listen to is wholly sub based however the odd flea bass riff always sounds best through a meaty sub :D so in short Not bothered about boom-tastic alloy rattling noise, would rather full bodied sound.

There are specific amps for subs, called MONO amps, they only have one out put, but can be expencive.

Most people use 2 channel amps and bridge both channels together to form one ouptut for subs, this is cheaper, and no real drawbacks.

Underpowering speakers can equally be as damaging as overpowering speakers.

There are car audo links in the sticky, Caraudiodirect has a good section to help you through your jorney of car audio!

So far then it seems i need

A)HU with pre out, or in the interim, a converter thingy that sends speaker signal back to pre-amp level.

B) at least 1 x 2 channel amp, bridged to power sub.

C) some good standard speakers to counter the excessive bass

D) another amp for these

Sound right? (gonna cost me loads doh)

if you are getting new front comps.

i recomend the JBL GTO262e. i take it they are going in your 306?? when changing the front ones, you will need to hack at the holes for abit, they are so small lol.

its easy to do though. i can get oyu a guide to fitting them
