cheap new monitor

ok my friends monitor just stopped working this morning the power light wouldn't even come on, he tested it with another monitor and it worked fine. any idea wwhat could be wrong? is it fixable? if not can someone reccommend me a cheap monitor he could get like around 50 quid

Presume you've checked the fuse in the power lead and tried using a different lead with that minitor??

the power cable works with other monitors so that's not the problem

You don't say whether it's a CRT or LCD, but anyway, it's probably not economic to fix it. For £50 you're looking at a used CRT.

yea its crt. he just moved to budget has to be kept to minimum, any suggestions?

Check the members market for-sale page. Might even find some S/H LCDs in your budget. Otherwise ebay. Not much point in me suggesting anything specific since chances are finding it for sale would be small. Just have a look what's available.

Sony/Dell/Mitsubishi CRTs are usually among the best. Trinitron/Diamondtron screens. If you find any LCDs within your budget, just check the response times are 16 ms or less and you should be ok.

Btw the current screen could be fixable. You could always try your local small independant PC/component retailer, they'll probably have someone who can look at it without charging you anything.
