I am looking at memory.
If the spec looks the same, and they're decent brands, is there anything different between cheap and expensive memory?

Also am I better off with 1x4GB or 2x2GB?

You're much better off getting 2x2Gb.

If the spec is the same/similar it's usually just as well to get the cheaper alternative as long as it's a quality brand.

e.g. If you're after DDR3 12800 memory - then XMS3 would be the memory most people would recommend - link

I only agree with this if your not planning an upgrade anytime soon as the obvious is that 1 x 4GB stick will occupy a single slot.

Get the cheapest one, just try to get hold of some reviews before hand. usually small difference in price though.

True, but i was assuming (maybe incorrectly) that he's got a dual channel setup, as not many 'older' boards could accomodate a singular 4gb module. In which case 2x2Gb would be the better option.

@timmillwood: A bit more info about your Spec and usage would be useful.
