I've got myself my first job, and I would like to build myself a computer again for some gaming.

Truth be told, I don't actually play that many any more so I'm not interested in all singing and dancing.

Currently I have:

128gb SSD (happy to sell it and get another)
Case that will do the job
corsair 750w hx powersupply
GTX 480
keyboard and mouse
DVD/Blu-ray drive

I've got some legacy bits from a i7 920 build, but I reckon its time to move on. The gtx 480 will probably be sold.

My budget is limited, as I'm joining the world of banking, and something tells me I'll need my money for other things!

I reckon maybe around £300-£400?

Monitor wise I'll be getting a 4K for work related stuff (guessing its easier to create reports and excel stuff with such resolution) so don't count that in budget.

Thanks!

edit: you can get 512gb SSD's for 144£ sterling now, so I'll sell the 128gb and get that. :)

Hi sports_brah,

You'd need serious GPU power for gaming @ 4K. And your budget won't cover that plus new CPU/mobo.

You could get an alternative monitor, with pretty high res and ultra-wide, for work tasks, and still quite capable of gaming. You really don't need 4K for Excel, nor would it be better in any fathomable way, to my mind anyway. And that would considerably lower the GPU-power requirement for gaming.

Wait and see if others suggest different alternatives. But this should get the ball rolling.

it is, but then you're not running your games at native, my signature has some builds in it to give you some ideas

genuine 4k gaming is just round the corner (id give it a couple of years), but for the typical user it's not here yet
