Cheap places for aftershave + recommendations

What sort of fragrances do you like and what is your budget? Would you be willing to spend £20, £50 or up to £100 on a bottle?

When I ask what sort of fragrances you like I'm referring to the actual scent. Do you like a deep, masculine and heavy evening scent or do you prefer lighter more refreshing scents?

Dont mind spending up to £40, not much more than that :)

The one that I like which is almost over is called Paco Rabanne - Ultraviolet Man.

Also have lacoste red too! :p

The two real choices you have are :

(1) Go to your local department store and buy the bog standard and very common YSL, Boss, Givenchy, Clinique etc etc range. You'll probably smell quite good and it won't be overly expensive. You will, however, smell like most other people do.

(2) Go to an independent store such as Truefitt & Hill or Geo F Trumpers and smell unique (well more so than the modern brands). They often don't cost a great deal more but are far better quality, will last longer and are less synthetic.

One must be very careful when buying perfumes from eBay, especially the more premium brands as it is rife with cheap counterfeits.

Yep, agree with that, just make sure it's a reputable seller or an eBay shop, not someone with 0 or negative feedback. You don't want to end up with cat wee in a bottle.

Ultraviolet is vile! It catches the back of my throat like pig manure :o

For £40 you could get on the Creed ladder. I'm a big fan :D
You'll only be able to get a 30ml bottle but have a look here - http://www.scentworldwide.co.uk/product_info.php?cPath=128&products_id=701

That's Creed Himilaya, a well renowned masculine fragrance. You can get that bottle for £37.50 which is a bargain as the 30ml bottles are normally £55. I can also verify that they sell genuine bottles.

A warning though. Once you get the Creed bug you will never wear a mainstream fragrance again. I didn't believe it until I tried :p

Scuzi so you find that place to be the cheapest then for Creed?

Aye, there is no cheaper that I know of. The only other reliable source is direct from a Creed dealer who charge £55 for a 30ml bottle, £95 for a 75ml bottle and £125 for a 120ml bottle. I'm gutted that I got most of mine before I found that site!:(

BTW, you're from Lurgan? Random!

Yeah a big fan of Creed here too, they may smell similar to other colognes if youre trying them in the shop, but its the dry down that sets them apart. Whats the new Virgin Island Water like, considering getting a bottle for the summer.

Another couple worth getting would be Terre d'Hermes and YSL M7 if you want some variation.

It's stunning. The perfect summer fragrance. I have been using it on the nicer days recently and it has been complemented a few times. Definitely a "feel good" fragrance.

Not that random, was on about the burn to yourself a fair bit ago, you will have seen my face there, but to be honest i dont post much lol. Will have to get me a bottle of GIT from them, that place in belfast is a tad expensive.

CD Fahrenheit, haven't tried Fahrenheit 32 yet through; Normally just pick mine up from the perfume shop.

Cheap? What kinda cheap? I wish you gave a budget as cheap might be different in your books.

Good but cheap? Like a £20-£30 for an EDU?

Or dirt cheap? like £2?

For dirt cheap I'd go for Brut, it's probably the best you'll get on a tight-student-budget some people hate it but I think it's decent. Joop (the original red/purple) is my personal favorite, I find it hard to like an EDU but I love this even a lot more than the top range ones ... just don't get it 'cuz it's mine, om nom nom.

Anything higher, I don't know as I don't spend that much. om nom nom.

Oooh, nice shot of the family, there!

Didn't realise you'd got Original Vetiver too - you've not mentioned it, so I guess it's not a favourite. D'you know what's patently missing from that pic? Original Santal. Go on, go on, go on... you don't need posh alloys on your Z4... :D

After cautiously putting my money where my mouth is, I've bought a Creed [Green Irish Tweed, in the cool all-black bottle] from the site I recommended to Mr Scuzi, and can confirm that it's the real deal [this Creed in particular is almost infamously counterfeited]. I've done my research; I know this is kosher.

aMb's right - Creed is all about the heart/base notes; that's where the magic is. But having said that, I really don't recommend buying Creeds or any other fragrances online without at least having tested them once. It's a heck of a lot of money to be laying down on something you may not like; if Mr S has whetted your appetite for Creeds, for instance, I recommend popping into your nearest upmarket department store and having an extended test session. Failing that, you can buy sample vials on Ebay that may save you from making a costly mistake. These samples are almost certain to be genuine [there's little profit to be gained with such small quantities].

Honestly, there's an absolute shedload of brilliant aftershaves/fragrances [call 'em what you will] out there beyond the Boots counter, including ones that are better [in my view] than even Creed. It's out there that you're likely to find a fragrance that not only suits you down to the ground, but it also makes you stand out from the more-popular-than-you-think 'designer' fragrances.

Bengaboy, if you're looking for recommendations, may I point you in the direction of a great online forum/guide all about this very subject: www.basenotes.net :)
