Gin Fans, I have a deal for you. These are both in Tesco Springburn but assume it's nationwide.
Edinburgh Gin, £14.99. WhiskyExchange have it up for £27.45.
Plymouth Gin, £12.49. WhiskyExchange have it up for £24.95.
These are both great gins, especially the Edinburgh and a cracking price. Both much better than Bombay or Tanqueray. Go buy buy buy!

Obligatory blurry photo.

Cool, thanks for this - at present drinking Greenall's;

Aldi's own brand is getting some love and it's cheap!

Made sure, for balance, that there is a "The Grauniad" and a "The Daily Bigot" article linked, to please all sensibilities!!

Awesome! However I hate the new Plymouth bottle. The old one was a chunky piece of glorious glass, the new one looks utter pants.

Not tried Edinburgh gin yet, so will grab one. Although I find gin more of a summer drink.

Gin? Sorry I'm not a middle aged divorced woman with a penchant for retaining cats as a substitute for a partner :p

Everybody has they're own tastes - although some are more questionable than others, i mean, Lager! it's named after "the pantry"!

My mum has been banging on about the quality of the Aldi gin, she seems to love it. All tastes the same to me! :p

Only recently started drinking gin but quite enjoying it. Not gone on to anything other than regular Gordons, Gordons Sloe and i've got some Gordons with Elderflower to try tonight.

Really easy to drink, I like it, hopefully my looming birthday and the festive season should see me sample some different gins.

What are considered to be the more "premium" brands of gin?

Edinburgh, Sipsmith and Martin Miller are probably my favourite premium gins. Gone to Tesco yet and got a bottle? ;)

What tonic are you using? Fever Tree is the best, Fentimens is also good. Avoid the cheap stuff. No point getting an expensive gin and pouring crap tonic into it.

A lot of people rate Hendricks but it's not for me.

.. i agree about the tonic suggestions, but if you do need a cheap tonic water

Waitrose essentials is 50p a litre bottle (don't get the diet one it's full of sweeteners!) and is rated highly in a lot of reviews comparing tonic waters previously mentioned by Ahleckz.

Avoid Sainsbury's and Morrison's own brand like the plague, they're both awful

Ahleckz, following on from your post in the other thread, do you have any recommendations about Hopped Gin and how much the addition of hobs changes the regular gin taste?

I've only had hop gin from eden mill. It's worth trying for sure. It certainly adds an interesting floral dimension and one I've never had from other gins. Thinking about it, it's not particularly gimmicky, hope are just another botanical. I had it neat, and the hops rounded it off and diminished the alcohol somewhat which was nice, and then had it with Fentimens gin. I wouldn't reach for it as my go to gin for a g&t, but I'd happily enjoy one or two.
The brand manager told me it is mainly Galaxy hops (pellets) which impart a nice fruity, citrus flavour which certainly complements the tonic well. I'm not sure how well they bring out the other flavours but they don't mask them, which is good.
She said that they are planning on relasing small batches of other hops in the future, but nothing set in stone for now.
It's my birthday in 3 weeks and if someone bought me a bottle, I would be extremely happy. But I'd probably spend my money on Martin Miller's, Sipsmiths or Edinburgh before I'd buy the hop gin. Bottle looks great though!

Ah ok, I'm not a big gin drinker, closest I get is a Gin Martini.

I try to buy my wife gin though to fulfil my love of buying alcohol!

Hah, yea I'd like to try it in a Martini but I'm quite old fashioned (love them as well!) and kind of think that a Martini just needs good gin and good Vermouth and nothing else. Bar an olive, obviously.

As for the tonic debate, I agree that fever Tree is the best but it's bloody expensive. I bought a 4 pack of Tesco finest tonic in cans and it's really nice and a fair bit cheaper than fever Tree and Fentimens. Need to get over to waitrose and try their basic stuff.

I'll confess something here, I've been drinking Tesco Everyday Value Gin, with some tonic and a lime there is not a world of difference between this and Gordons. Fine for a standard G+T anyway!

Anyone else think Bombay Sapphire tastes like cardboard?
