Hows about Radeon x1650 Pro. Around the ton mark..got to be one of the best AGP cards out there at a reasonable price.

If the rest of his system is in line with his 9800 pro, then I also think a nice X800 pro would be a decent upgrade. When I went 9800 pro to X800 pro, my 3Dmark03 score almost doubled. Most are reasonable overclockers (mine would run stable at 540/530 on standard cooler). They can be picked up second hand for around £60, I've just (yesterday in fact) sold one.

Can't say I'd loose too much sleep over not heaving SM3.0

PS. I would also agree with around £25 for your old card. Currently running my old one in a back-up PC.

7600gs agp is very good replacement. will cost only £65 inc vat and delivery. so no problems there. i did the dame upgrade on one of my machines and it resulted in a very good speed boost.

Not on this website it doesn't

On the subject matter in hand, the 9800 Pro is a hard act to follow in terms of price/performance, but I can recommend a 6800 GS/GT

rest of system is 3.0 p4 northwood(800fsb but not prescott),lanparty pro 975b mobo,1gb 3200 ram.no overclocked cos if i raise fsb above 205x4 it crashes lol think my memory is crap.just a temp fix for a few months while i get cash for a new uber rig.

card must also work with a crt i..e not just dvi connections

think the 6600gs looks good :)

I'd seriously think about getting a minimum of a 6800 GT upgrade from a 9800 Pro, rather than a 6600 GS. Otherwise it might be a bit of waste of money.

Hi... you say "no overclocked cos if i raise fsb above 205x4 it crashes". Question... can you not apply a memory divider to keep the bus the same for the memory? Though I'm the first to admit that I'm no expert here.

I'm also pretty sure that all graphics cards will work for a CRT. As if they only have DVI connectors, you can use a DVI-VGA converter (like I do).

i could apply a memory divider if a/i knew how to and b/if my board supported it which i dont think it does.my memory is just 3200 value ram, think it works at 210x4 for a while but at 215x4 it boots then hangs in windows

I'd imagine a DFI Lanparty to have the option to stick the memory on a divider, should check it out. I'd agree with the X800 or 6800 calls, can be had pretty cheap 2nd hand now and provide a good speed boost over your old card.
Your system isn't that bad to be honest, a good card would easily see you through for another few months.

a 9800pro is not at all bad. i have vista running and the full aero view works perfectly with the 9800pro. its still a good card but just that newer games tend to give it a bit of a lashing, but games like unreal tournament 2004, quake 3, soldier of fortune 2 etc all run brilliantly
