any suggestions? I've a DG834 V2 atm and the QOS doesn't do anything for our VoIP. we've already got the office covered using AP so don't mind having no wireless etc.
other than that we don't really care about the features!

comments wellcome :p

doesn't the WRT54 have a built in modem?
NO
The best connection to the net is with a Broadcom chipset modem/router - which means Thomson 780wl all in one voip or a Netgear GT (an ex Sky can be bought cheap and cracked easily) used as modem with the WRT54 dishing it out. Then up market (but no broadcom chipset) is Draytek either modem router or just router

The Thompson is one I'd avoid as it is known that some BeBoxes can be unstable. The GT is a good choice but you shouldn't rely on using it as a modem as people have had difficulties in bridge mode.

Either just go for the GT as an all-in-one and don't worry about QoS or go for the AM200+WRT54GL combo.

hmm, I like the idea of running tomato tbh, but I want to spend as little cash as poss.
its going to be used in the office so stability is the main concern but cost does play a part (can't afford cisco :( )

Avoid the ZyXELs - awful awful routers :/

Surely an AM200 + WRT54GL isn't a too expensive combination? It'll give you very good stability and performance and the features you require.

It's got a Conexant Argon in it, according to this.
It does QoS, but I couldn't find any actual pictures. Given how ropey Zoom hardware's been before (security issues etc.), I wouldn't touch it with someone else's.

this is the boss who's refused to get a server for the last 2 years now, even tho the desktop thats working as a fileserver is getting more and more unstable with every passing day.
the IT budget is basicaly £0 and anything I want to upgrade is a big fight.

sounds like he needs bullet points saying why you need this new hardware

man i hate my old boss, biggest tool i've ever met
