Cheap run around needed for about 1k

I've got an old 1995 MK3 Golf driver. I'm not even sure it has a worth but its been utterly reliable and has had the minimal amount of effort put into its upkeep (it is serviced once a year). We had it at 40K from the original owner and its now on 133K.

I would avoid french stuff, hate vauxhall and I wouldn't buy a mondeo just on principle so my suggestion is a MK3 golf.

This is exactly like mine but looks in better nick.

I'd go for a Golf but everyone who knows me would stop talking to me on what I used to say about drivers of Golfs (especially the new ones). Although my other halfs uncle has a Golf.

I just dont know what to do, it's not my day today!

An old citroen will be breaking down left right and centre!
Get an old Nissan.
Yes, the PSA XUD lump is notorious for its unreliability.
And the fact that this car has done 130,000 just goes to show what a rubbish piece of french design it really is!

There is far more to go wrong on a car than just an engine.

TD or not, an old citroen is not a wise choice for a cheap and reliable runaround.
