I need enough ply to cover my 16m^2 kitchen floor. This works out as 6 or 7 sheets. Wickes seems expensive at £23/12mm sheet or £27/18mm sheet. Is this expensive for WBP ply or is it about what I should expect to pay? Ideally I'd be able to find a supplier with 15mm in stock but it seems to be less common. Around the Brighton area there is Travis Perkins, Jewson etc, but they're not open today. Are these places usually cheaper? Is it worth trying to blag a trade card from somewhere?

Wickes 12mm ply isn't that bad in price, a few months back I was got some for £21- £22 per sheet from the Builder Depot.

Yes, you can get ply cheaper but it's usually chinky ply, cheap Chinese ply, which I don't like.

Also have a look at 'Stamco Building Supplies', they had a branch in Hove.

Is it for tiling over? I found it was cheaper to use hardi backer board as it's 0.8 x 1.2 m and could fit in the car rather than adding delivery to ply.

Get a price from Alsford timber they have a place in Brighton.

Wickes prices are sometimes pretty good, but you need to order a lot to outweigh the £32 delivery price.

My local timber merchant charge me £24 for a 18x1220x2440mm sheet of ply, but they offer free local delivery, so cheaper than wickes if only ordering 7 sheets.

18mm ply is really heavy stuff, and 12mm would presume a non-ideal floor. If it's already going on to a solid floor then 6mm will be ok (bare minimum depth if you have a good surface underneath).

Of course I'll now find out what you're planning has nothing to do with tiling...
