My sister got an Inspiron 1300, pretty much the same as the second spec there (cost a lot more 2 weeks ago...

)
I spent a lot of time getting it set up for her, and I have to say the base unit is a nice piece of kit. Screen is a nice size and it's reasonably slim and lightweight. USB ports, Network and VGA-out are all on the left side though, which is a bit awkward if you want to use a USB mouse right-handed.
The software however... well I've never seen a system pre-loaded with such an unholy amount of utter **** in my life. Straight from the factory, there were 71 processes
So if you're going to be setting it up, i'd recommend paying the exorbitant £5 (!) for a driver CD, as you don't get any system disks with it. (No XP, no drivers. just ISP ads & a few applications) They've moved to a policy of using a backup partition to reload a factory image of your system in case you need to re-install too.
But after a complete reformat and fresh XP install it becomes a very nice laptop. You loose all the free trials of software, but cut out all the rubbish too.
(Just remember to hang onto the full user manual... handily stored on the hard drive.)
I really don't rate Dell much compared to a year ago... they never used to load this much rubbish and included XP & Driver disks as standard.
Well, that's my experience of the 1300 anywho.
